However, operating containers on a company scale is different from operating in development. It helps to have an orchestration level that controls resource planning, load balancing, and more. As part of its growing practice, VMware is proud to have acquired Bitfield Consulting, a company-focused consulting firm founded by former Kubernetes developer and Kubersetes co-founder Chris Kowalczyk.

Kubernetes was first published in 2014 by two Brendan Burns (now at Microsoft) and donated by Google to the then newly founded Cloud Native Computing Foundation so that it could be managed independently and vendor-neutral. After leaving Google, where they were instrumental in the creation of Kuber, Joe Beda and Craig McLuckie founded Heptio as their own company.

They have also created a number of related open source tools for the acquisition of Kubernetes, including the open source container orchestration framework and related tools such as Docker, Docker Swarm and Docker Hub.

The container orchestration system works well for large-scale enterprises and has been used by companies such as Google, Microsoft, IBM, Cisco, HPE, Dell, Hewlett-Packard Enterprise and many others. It was also processed by Dell - owned by Pivotal and VMware, with VMware hoping to cement Heptio as a key player in container management for businesses in the coming years.

As a new standard for container orchestration, the platform is provided by Heptio, an open source platform for container management and managed services.

As many companies learn to navigate complex systems designed to automate the delivery of applications on a large scale, services are not quite enough. While applications can now run in abstracted resource pools, companies need to move from configuration management to deployment unit management and configuration management.

As the hype around Docker and Kubernetes continues to grow, large companies are beginning to develop container strategies for development and operation. With a solid strategy, containers have the potential to make DevOps more efficient, faster, and more cost-effective than ever before. While Docker or Kubersetes are a natural solution to enhance devOps automation, organizations should be able to design a complete strategy that includes technology, processes, and training to ensure that they can retrofit when development, deployment, or deployment management fails.

We started using Kubernetes as soon as version 1.0 was released, and we built several products that use it, such as our own developer tool called Trace.
